The Game Plan:
I am going to travel the world, making a three pointer at the hoops I come across in the places I go. As I travel, I am going to involve you all in the journey, recording the shot and posting it here and on social media. For each location I make a 3-pointer, I am going to donate $50 to 5 for the Fight, an organization dedicated to eradicating cancer from our society.
I invite you to join me by pledging to donate per shot or providing a one time donation to the cause. 100% of the proceeds go to groundbreaking cancer research, 0% goes to me.
I would like this project to be a worldwide endeavor. I want to take this to the far corners of the globe, raising as much as possible to the cause of curing cancer and bringing people together.
I will be chronicling the journey on social media under the tag #CountTheMakes, after what my basketball coaches told me way back in the 7th grade: "Count the Makes, Not the Misses."
Europe / October 2019:
This past October, I traveled to 7 different cities in Europe — Lausanne, Geneva, Marseille, Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels. It was, for lack of a better term, awesome.
I met amazing people, experienced beautiful parks and landmarks, ate incredible food. Each city offered something unique.
In each city, I made a three pointer.
By the end, we raised $870 for 5 for the Fight, which is simply incredible. I am so proud of what we were able to do and be a part of.
USA + Italy + Greece / April & may 2019:
Last May I went Chania, Crete to volunteer with Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece (fun fact: I studied Environmental Studies in college and this is a major passion of mine). I started in Raleigh, North Carolina and ended in Greece. I visited museums in Florence, the Vatican in Rome and I protected sea turtle habitats in Greece.
I had the opportunity to visit:
Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina
St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota
New York City, New York (also taking a couple of days to participate in the Steve Nash Foundation’s Charity Shield event taking place in Brooklyn that weekend)
Florence, Italy
Cinque-Terre, Italy
Venice, Italy
Rome, Italy
Chania, Crete, Greece
We managed to raise $1,310 for Count the Makes. I was so proud and excited.
Colorado, California, Utah 2021
This is all a little last minute, a little underplanned. I decided very quickly to completely rework what I had been planning for later in the year and just head out. So on January 4th, I’m heading out. After two years of being unable to travel, I just couldn’t wait.
This time, I’ll be making shots in:
Denver, CO
Los Angeles, CA
Yucca Valley, CA
Salt Lake City, UT
San Francisco, CA
Napa, CA
St. George, UT
I don’t know if it’s ambitious to want to raise $1,500 in that time, but I’d like to try! Let’s see what we can do.
I am so excited for this adventure and I am excited to have the opportunity to raise funds for such an important cause.
Stay tuned for ways to get involved and feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions!
